Description

The Fiat Panda turns 40 years old this month, giving us the perfect opportunity to celebrate the original – and some say best – version: the 1980 Panda Mk1. Three Lancias line up for a big group test: Trevi saloon, Kappa coupe and Gamma saloon – the latter having done almost zero miles from new. Supercars are on test, too: Steve Berry gives us his unique take on the Ferrari 812 Superfast; we drive two classics from the early mid-engined era – De Tomaso Mangusta and Pantera; and we ask if the ARES Panther is a reborn De Tomaso Pantera. We also tell the surprising story of the only four-door car Ferrari ever considered making – the 1980 Pinin. Alfa Romeo’s glorious Giulia GTA is in the spotlight, as we drive a very rare Stradale that was, highly unusually, raced in the 1960s. Another classic racer is Maserati’s 6CM, a 1930s ‘junior class’ contender that won title after title – we bag a rare track test. As ever, we’ve also visited several different countries to bring you reports on all the best Italian car events.
