Welcome

I've never visited the Mille Miglia before so when I received invites from both MAC Events and Bresciatourism, I decided to give it a go. MAC Events are a determined organisation that have just taken over the running the Mille Miglia. They are an established name in the Italian event network having promoted the high profile Coppa Milano-Sanremo rally for several years. They certainly made a good job of this year's Mille Miglia with great attention paid to spectator facilities. The drive-through competitor registration area and the startline line both had substantial public grandstand seating – and it was all free. Bresciatourism arranged an educational tour for us of the local area which included visits to Sirmione on Lago di Garda and Monteisola on Lago d'Iseo. We also visited an Agriturismo – a working farm with holiday accommodation – and a Franciacorta vineyard. If you want to combine motoring events like the Mille Miglia, Valle Camonica hillclimb or La Mittiche Sport a Bassano with a holiday in the Brescia region then there is plenty on offer. To be honest the north east was already my favourite part of Italy and the Mille Miglia visit served to confirm my opinion. The icing on the cake was that Johann Lemercier, our man in Italy, landed himself a co-drive in a Ferrari 225 Export, so expect a full hands-on report soon.

The reprofiling of the magazine for issue 147 (on-sale July 17th) is growing apace and I hope readers will be delighted with the result. A couple of the new items we have planned require your valuable input. The first is a new questions and answers section, so if you have any burning issues or advice on running your car then we need to know. Secondly we are expanding our regular running reports beyond the usual editorial team cars and would like to include interesting cars that our readers own. So tell us about the work you are carrying out on your classic or the modifications to your everyday road car. Be one of the first, start writing it up today and, oh yes, some decent pictures please.
